Party Etiquette ideas ->
Many believe that party etiquette is a thing of the past. A common misconception is that a party is an occasion for letting go of civilized conventions, throwing caution to the wind or getting out of line. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
Proper party etiquette is more important than ever. Parties are becoming increasingly more elaborate and guest lists tend to be incredibly long. A major faux pas at a party these days will be witnessed by dozens and never lived down. A wedding for instance is extremely expensive and every activity is likely to be recorded on every digital device from a cell phone camera to a professional video camera. The dancer who trips on the dance floor may end up on a bloopers type television program!
Party etiquette will be remembered for years to come and improper party etiquette will be frowned upon and never forgotten. Some have never taken the time to learn the time honored rules of appropriate public behavior. If that is the case it's time for a quick trip to the library or book store--it's never too late to learn.
Things are not as formal socially as they once were but certain basic rules still apply. Party invitations require RSVP even if only by a quick phone call. Only E-mail as a last resort and for more important occasions like a wedding or family reunion it is still necessary to send back a written RSVP in the mail.
Normal table manners still apply! There's a notion that these are not needed but they really are. Most importantly, leave the gluttony for the buffet at a local restaurant on pay day. Caterers only plan a certain amount for each guest there is no extra. Also no matter how open the bar is, it is still very poor form to over imbibe.
