Menus ideas ->
From the moment the neighbor comes over and says, "Let's throw a block party!" until the street is cordoned off and guests arrive, various aspects of the party's menus are tweaked. This is with good reason: menus are really important.
In the case of a church festival, family reunion or block party there are often many different menus. Typically this type of gathering is planned by separate groups or households so that a wide variety of menus are offered, sometimes for sale or donation. When this is the case it is especially important to use some method of telling guests about these different foods. This can include information about preparation, ingredients or both.
When there are many different groups it might be helpful to distribute menus with blanks to be filled in by the various food preparation groups. They could offer histories, reminiscences or culinary and cultural information for their menus. If enough information is gathered it would be a nice adjunct to offer a compilation of this information in booklet form. This could be sold for a fundraiser with careful editing.
For the invitation phase of the gathering briefer descriptions of these menus need to be included. The invitation would vary with the type of occasion. A block party or festival might use flyers and a newspaper article as the mass invitation. Dignitaries or special guests could be sent individualized invitations with abbreviated menus inserted. Of course family reunions would also require that as many relatives as possible were sent invitations by mail.
The actual buffet tables at these functions should also proudly display uniform menus. These could be prepared and distributed by organizers or blank forms distributed for individual food preparers to fill in.
When the event finally takes place and tables are filled with southern cooking, Cajun favorites, or bakery basics you'll be glad you went to the bother of proper menus preparation.
